Murray Edwards College is a college of some 50 Fellows and 430 students (360 undergraduates and 70 graduate students) founded in 1954, with 'Grade II*' listed buildings completed in 1965 on an old Roman site on Castle Hill, close to Cambridge city centre.
Both men and women can become Fellows and Research Fellows, providing a genuinely integrated group of scholars and teachers from all parts of the world. The student body is open exclusively to women, and both faculty and students value the opportunity this gives to create a unique community that is liberal, outgoing, relaxed but academically adventurous. Murray Edwards College is a modern college with a modern and distinctive outlook. Its members enjoy the best of the co-educational life of the university while escaping the less desirable aspects and pressures of co-residence.
The Fellows of the College take it for granted that all their students intend to achieve the highest academic standards, whatever their educational backgrounds, and do their best to support their efforts. Murray Edwards College students, being high achievers, also find time to take a lively and often leading role in the life of the University; they are particularly active, both in College and University, in music, drama and sport.
